Three Nights of Luxury on the Edge of the North York Moors

In the historic, market town of Guisborough, on the northern edge of the North York Moors is a gem of a place which OutdoorLads has hired for a very comfortable long weekend. This Grade 2 listed property was derelict just a few years ago and has been transformed by the local community and council working together to breathe new life into the building by making it available for up to 18 guests in very comfortable rooms, each of which sleeps a maximum of three. The communal areas are very swish too, quite different from the usual "hostel" offering!
We will have two full days in autumn to walk, bike, run, chill, sightsee, or whatever we feel like doing. Guisborough is located right at the foot of the Moors, with forest covering the slopes and vast expanses affording dramatic moorland views, as well as views out to sea.
Our choice of walking is limitless, with the Cleveland Way, Britain's second oldest national trail, passing above us. Roseberry Topping (the local Matterhorn) is in walking distance, along with Captain Cook's Monument.
Guisborough Forest is well known for mountain biking, always an option if we have an appropriate leader, or you can ride solo / with friends.
Seaside towns such as Redcar (undergoing the start of a renaissance, and it needs it) and Victorian Saltburn have beaches to die for. Dramatic sea cliffs head southwards from Saltburn towards Whitby.
Guisborough has its ruined Priory and spectacular Gisborough Hall (ancient spelling) Hotel which does great afternoon teas apparently.
This event is non-catered, ie no planned meals for Saturday and Sunday evenings, on account of the big range of eateries, take aways and supermarkets in the town. We could do a group cook of pizzas, book a table at a restaurant, whatever we like. Simple breakfasts will be provided for cereal, toast, preserves, porridge, tea, coffee, milk.
We have opted for THREE nights, Friday to Monday to make the most of the area, especially for those travelling long distances. Please note that some rooms have two singles and a sofa bed, beds will be allocated on a first-come basis on the day.
