Spring up Ben Vrackie

Ben Vrackie is a grand wee mountain, rocky and pointy enough to make it worth strapping on your hiking boots for, but small enough to be achievable for everyone, even in Scotland's unpredictable early spring.
The timings and start point for the walk are designed to work with either public transport or driving. We'll meet at Pitlochry train station, which is next to a large public car park. From Pitlochry, we'll head up a minor back road towards Moulin, up a wooded ravine, and then out onto open moorland.
After a reasonably gentle ascent, we skirt round the edge of a small loch, before starting the climb. It gets steeper at this point, but don't worry - there's a series of handy stone steps to help get over the steepest sections.
No false summits to worry about, and after we complete the climb, we'll be on the summit and hopefully be rewarded with fantastic views north to the Cairngorms and west over Strathtay and Schiehallion. We'll visit the main summit and a couple of minor tops as well, before heading down the way we came.
Once back at the loch, we'll take a different route along the waterline, across the moor, picking up a path which will eventually take us back to Moulin, from where we can wander back to Pitlochry. There are plenty of options for tea and cake in the town, if we need to boost our energy levels.
