Shadow of Snowdon Weekend

Taking its name from early Welsh saint, Saint Peris, the village of Llanberis lies in a long, narrow valley alongside lakes Llyn Padarn and Llyn Peris. The small agricultural community exploded with the increasing developments of slate mining in the 1870s, the evidence of which can be seen everywhere in the valley from the remaining quarries and long forgotten miners cottages to the Victorian workshops preserved by the National Slate Museum.
Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), used by Sir Edmund Hillary to train for his ascent of Mount Everest, is the second highest of the Three Peaks in the British Isles. With its six paths (Llanberis, Rhyd Ddu, Snowdon Ranger, Watkin Paths and Miners and Pyg Tracks), mountain railway, rock climbing and mountain biking, Yr Wyddfa is a (literally) huge tourist attraction for North Wales.
Although it gets most of the attention, there are many other excellent peaks to ascend surrounding Yr Wyddfa, including Moel Eilio, Elidir Fach and Elidir Fawr, Tryfan, Glyder Fach and Glyder Fawr. The knife edge ridge to Crib Goch is also a must for those wanting an adrenaline hit.
Deep in the beautiful mountain scenery, YHA Snowdon Llanberis is located on the doorstep of Parc Cenedlaethol Eryri (Snowdonia National Park) and is a ten minute walk from Llanberis High Street.
Itinerary
Friday Evening - Arrive anytime after 5pm, meet the rest of the group and socialise. Welcome briefing and we'll have the usual OutdoorLads buffet so please bring something that can be shared between two people (doesn't need to be complicated).
Saturday Day - Continental breakfast will be available, and we will be looking to put on two, or possibly three, big walks for the day, at least one Mountain walk and one Lowland and Hill walk in the immediate area. With hits like Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) and the Moel Eilio horseshoe on our doorstep there are excellent options all around.
Saturday Evening - Pop the feet up and unwind from the day's activites. We will be putting together a two course meal (main and dessert) to warm you all up again, followed by some games and good laughs.
Sunday - Breakfast is provided for once more then we'll all band together to tidy and clean up the hostel to how we found it (takes no time at all with so many) before we need to vacate by 11am. At this point some of our number may wish to return home while others may want to enjoy another smaller walk. Along the shores of Llyns Padarn and Peris, up to Dolbadarn Castle, and visits to the National Slate Museum and Quarry Hospital are readily doable.
Dogs - The hostel will permit up to 3 dogs on this event. Please book your own space and then contact the office on support@outdoorlads.com to book a place for your furry friend(s). There is a charge of £30 per dog.
IMPORTANT! - Participation Statement
You MUST complete a Participation Statement, in addition to booking your event space before attending an OutdoorLads event. You only need to complete this Participation Statement once, not for each event you attend.
