If you’re a seasoned member or recently discovered us via a Pride event, this 12.5km walk up Rivington Pike and Winter Hills is a fantastic event to pull on your boots and begin an Autumn of walking with OutdoorLads.
We’ll start off walking through the woods of Rivington Country Park, heading along the banks of Lower Rivington Reservoir before reaching Lever Castle, built as folly by Lord Leverhulme in 1912 and based on Liverpool Castle. From here, we’ll head east and start the ascent up to Rivington Pike and the Pike Tower which offers commanding views of the Lever Park estate.
Our path then heads north east over Rivington Moor to the Winter Hill (456 m) the highest point in the West Pennine Moors and home to the Winter Hill TV mast, where we’ll stop for lunch, before heading over to the trig point.
We then take a steep descent at a leisurely pace, to Moor Bottom before following the old Belmont Road to the iconic Pigeon Tower, the focal point of Rivington Terrace gardens, which we’ll be exploring before finishing our walk with a walk past Rivington Great Barn.
