This walk starts at the famous Monsall Head Viewing point and heads towards Peter’s Stone, a circular limestone dome. It has also been referred to as Gibbet Rock. A Gibbet was a gallows used to display the bodies of criminals after their execution. On New Year’s Day 1815 Hannah Oliver was murdered for a pair of red boots and a Tideswell man was convicted and executed for the killing. After execution his body was hung on chains on Peter’s Stone. The moral of the story is don’t steal red boots in Derbyshire!
We will also visit the village of Foolow, which is a picturesque village with a duck pond.
