London Thames Walk : Vauxhall to Kew
6 people attending
4 places left
Stuck in London due to the train strikes? Fear not - London has lots of green space and on this walk we'll explore some of it along the Thames between Vauxhall and Kew. The start and end point are accessible by Underground so hopefully immune to National Rail travel issues on Saturday October 1st.
We'll meet in Vauxhall and wander along the Thames to visit the Battersea Power Station. Though the Power Station itself doesn't open to the public for another couple of weeks, it's still an interesting walk around the newly developed public space.
Following that we'll head to Battersea Park where we'll do a quick tour so I can show off my favourite parts of this park.
The rest of the walk follows along the Thames Path south of the river, except between Hammersmith and Barnes Bridge where we'll take a walk on the northern bank.
We finish up at the Kew Gardens Underground Station (District Line/Overground) where you can avail yourself of refreshments at the pub next door or head on home.

What to bring
Water: bring at least a litre
Medicines: if you have hay fever, diabetes, minor ailments etc.
Rucksack: or any other bag
Footwear: hiking boots or sturdy trainers. A lot of today will be on pavement or muddy park paths. You'll probably get away without hiking boots - but don't wear anything you don't mind getting muddy !
Layered clothing: lets you quickly adapt to changes in the weather and body temperature. Go for a base layer (vest or t-shirt) and a mid layer (a micro fleece or shirt) and in cooler weather add an outer layer (a windproof jacket or thick fleece)
Trousers: ideally not jeans which become heavy and cold in the rain, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry.
Waterproof jacket: breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry
Hat or cap: stay warm in winter and shaded in summer
Sunglasses: for any sunny day, even in winter
Sun cream: can be useful even on cloudy and winter days
Snacks: bring biscuits, energy bars, gels, bananas, chocolate or dried fruit for example and put them somewhere easy to get hold of
Food & drink
We'll have a lunch stop along the way ... so bring the usual ODL packed lunch, snacks and plenty of water. There is a sainsburys and waitrose near the start point.
