Overview

Join Will & Jon for a fortnight of cycling LEJOG, a cycle tour of the UK from Lands End to John O’Groats.  The whole route will take 14 days (plus 2 days travelling) covering 1000 miles so join for as much or as little as you can face!  The trip is organised as day events, allowing you to sign up to whatever days you fancy, booking your own transport and accommodation according to your budget.

DAY EIGHT - Lancaster to Carlisle

We couldn't go past Cumbria without climbing a hill, someone has put one in the way on today's route but not to worry we have 15km to climb it.  We are on quiet roads as we leave Lancashire and head through Cumbria via Penrith to Carlisle.

Today is a fairly touristy day.  At 33km we go past National Trust's Sizergh Castle, though to be honest that will be a bit early in the day.  At 78km we go past Lowther Castle which looks impressive on their website and could be a nice spot to cycle around the grounds and grab some over priced food from their cafe.  Finally at 85km we go past English Heritage's Mayburgh Henge which is free to visit and looks interesting.

The route can be downloaded from here.

Saturday 11th July accommodation suggestions in Carlisle:

  • plenty to choose from including Premier Inn, Travelodge and Holiday Inn.
  • Will and Jon booked into Rosalind House.

Keep costs down by getting twin rooms and sharing.
