DAY THIRTEEN - Edinburgh to Dunkeld

We leave Edinburgh on National Cycling Route 1 and cross the Forth on the old road bridge.  We change to Route 775 to Perth and end up on the 77 to Dunkeld.  We cover 106km with 940m of ascent today.

In Kinross at 50km it would be nice to try and visit Historic Scotland Environment's Lochleven Castle.    Mary Queen of Scots was once a guest here, but her former host turned her jailer in 1567. She eventually escaped, never to see Scotland again.  We need to book for this one if we want to visit, as its a short boat ride across the lake.

At 84km we pass Historic Scotland Environment's Huntingtower Castle, another location that MAry Queen of Scots once visited.

The route can be downloaded from here.

Thursday 21st July accommodation suggestions in Dunkeld:

  • handful of independent hotels here to choose from.
  • Will & Jon are staying at Birnam Hotel, booked through Booking.com

Keep costs down by getting twin rooms and sharing.
