Digley Reservoir / Holme circular, West Yorkshire

This is an 8.5 mile walk. It will take in some good views of the reservoir and surrounding moorland, farmland and hills. There is a maximum elevation of 480 metres but we do start quite high. There are a couple of steeper ascents on the way which gives us these great views.
We will start at the car park and skirt part of the reservoir. We'll join the Kirklees Way for a short time and walk across Wessenden Head Moor. We will stop for lunch part way through to refuel and then make our way down to Holme, through some woods and then return to the car park.
There are good paths on most of the walk, but in areas of moorland it can be a bit boggy (especially if has been wet recently). There are a couple of fords to cross, so again please be conscious you may need to be able to get through some shallow waters without getting your feet too wet!
Public Transport - It is accessible to get to the starting location. There are options by train / bus from Leeds, Manchester and other towns and cities in the region. I have found Googlemaps has provide some useful info about different routes.

What to bring
Water: bring at least two litres
Medicines: if you have hay fever, diabetes, minor ailments etc.
Day rucksack: typically 20-30 litres, they are comfortable to wear and allow you to use your arms freely
Boots: waterproof and breathable and designed for hiking. Good waterproof walking boots are strongly advised. There are good tracks on most of the walk, but on the Moorland areas it can get boggy and there are a couple of fords and streams that needs to be passed through, so robust footwear is needed to prevent a soggy foot!
Socks: proper walking socks will keep your feet dry and help prevent blisters
Layered clothing: lets you quickly adapt to changes in the weather and body temperature. Go for a base layer (vest or t-shirt) and a mid layer (a micro fleece or shirt) and in cooler weather add an outer layer (a windproof jacket or thick fleece)
Trousers: ideally no jeans as they become heavy and cold in the rain, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry and on warm days shorts are OK
Waterproof jacket: essential when hiking in all but the calmest of weather, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry
Gloves: Windproof, or better still, waterproof gloves are the best choice, bring a spare pair if expecting rain
Hat or cap: stay warm in winter and shaded in summer
Sunglasses: for any sunny day, even in winter
Suncream - If sun is forecast
Snacks: bring biscuits, energy bars, gels, bananas, chocolate or dried fruit for example and put them somewhere easy to get hold of
Lunch: bring a packed lunch
Food & drink
Please bring a packed lunch and plenty of water.
There are no shops near by to buy refreshments, so please bring food etc with you.
There is a pub at the end of the walk (The Fleece, in Holme) that people may wish to go to.
