A days climbing at Stanage Edge
8 people attending
0 places left
Join us for a days climbing on the fantastic Stanage Edge (Popular end). This extensive crag line stretches as far as the eye can see, so there are bags of routes at every level.
As there is also a day climb the next day (Burbage North, Sun 20th May) a few of us may camp over at a nearby campsite on the Saturday, so we can have a few beers after climbing, and then be handy for Sundays climbing... Camping arranged individually/informally- message event leader for further info.
To attend this event, you will need to have attended an indoor climbing event with OutdoorLads, and be competent in tying in with a figure 8 knot, and Lead-Belaying a climbing partner. If you are unsure about the difficulty of the event, or whether you have necessary skills & experience, please message the event leader with your questions.
More places may come available, depending on the number of lead climbers available. Places for seconders will be on a first come first served basis.
We will meet at 10.45 and go over arrangements for the day, and walk up to the crag at 11am, so please be on time.
Participation statement
As a BMC Affiliate member, Outdoorlads draws your attention to the fact that climbing is an activity with a danger of personal injury or death. You should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for your own actions and involvement.
Please note that every person participating should be aware of (and accept) that those members perceived as ‘in charge’ or leading the event are not necessarily qualified, do not need to be qualified, and are not regarded by OutdoorLads, or themselves as ‘technical experts’ but are amateur climbers with some experience and who are happy to impart their knowledge. Any advice given should be considered with this in mind by the recipient.
What to bring
Harness, Rock boots, Belay plate and Screwgate karabiner, and a Helmet.
If you don't have your own equipment then you may be able to use the OutdoorLads gear if you message the meet leader in advance. Please note there are limited group helmets available, and you wont be able to climb without one; group gear is first come first serve! Wear old clothes that you don't mind getting damaged. Grit stone can be quite abrasive. Bring warm clothes for when you aren't climbing and a waterproof just in case. It is also advisable to bring insect repellent as midges can be an annoyance.
Food & drink
You will need a packed lunch, and drinks to last you the day as we will spend the day on the crag. There may be the opportunity to retreat to a nearby pub for food/drink at the end of the day, and a chance to brag about the days achievements!
