A circular riverside & canal walk from Shipley to Buck Mill

This event will open for bookings on Friday 9th May. We are trialling delayed booking for all day walks in the Northeast and Yorkshire Region to reduce waiting lists and late cancellations. We know that a significant number of members who book places on our walks eventually decide not to attend the event. This causes long waiting lists and makes it harder for those who wish to attend an event to obtain a place. If you are interested in attending this event, please click the ‘bookmark’ button to add this page to your list of bookmarked events. This will make it easier for you to find the page when the event opens for bookings.
This is a short circular walk setting off from and returning to Shipley. We’ll be following the canal for the first part of the walk before crossing the River Aire for the return journey. This is a flat route, but sections alongside the river are narrow with uneven ground in place. We'll take in sites such as Buck Mill, and Denso woods.
We’ll end the walk at the station with an option to get some food and drink afterwards.
Dogs: Well-behaved, socialised and under-control dogs are welcome on this event.
Dogs should be kept on a lead whenever this is signposted, whenever we are in the vicinity of livestock, and at the event leader's request.
If the event is fully booked: Please join the wait list as people frequently drop out during the week before an event and you are likely to get a place on the walk.
If this is your first OutdoorLads walk event: If this is your first event, we’ll make sure you feel welcomed. Please check out the My First Event page, and don’t hesitate to drop me a message if you have questions or want to know more about this walk.
You MUST complete a Participation Statement, in addition to booking your event space before attending an OutdoorLads event. You only need to complete this Participation Statement once, not for each event you attend.

What to bring
Water: Bring a suitable amount of water, bring more if it’s a hot day.
Medicines: If you have hay fever, diabetes, minor ailments etc.
Rucksack: A small backpack or similar.
Footwear: Although this is a flat walk, sturdy walking shoes are recommended, as are proper walking socks as they'll keep your feet dry and prevent blisters. Sturdy trainers will also be fine.
Clothing: Dress for the weather, and if it’s cold or wet bring extra layers so you can adapt as we progress. Waterproofs are recommended for wet days, and if it’s wet try to avoid wearing jeans which will become heavy and cold.
Hat or cap: Hats will keep you warm and protect you from the wind. Essential in Winter.
Sunglasses: For any sunny day, even in winter.
Sun cream: Can be useful even on cloudy days.
Snacks: Bring snacks to keep you going through. As it’s a short walk we won’t be stopping for lunch but bring what you need.
