BSumC2018: Cycling - To Brighton and Beyond! MEET 09:00(C)

7 places left
This event will open for bookings at 11am on Saturday, 28th July 2018.
This is one of the many events organised as part of the Big Summer Camp 2018 weekend.
Join Andy for a 56 mile cycle ride along the south coast during the August Bank Holiday Big Summer Camp Event.
The cycle ride will start at Angmering and head west towards Littlehampton to 'warm up' before heading East towards Brighton and beyond. The planned route incorporates several coastal towns along the way, including Littlehampton, Goring-by-Sea, Worthing, Lancing, Shoreham-by-Sea, Portslade-by-Sea, Hove, Brighton and Peacehaven.
We will take a break at Brighton (perhaps having lunch on the beach), before continuing to Peacehaven a little further East along the coast. There will be options to extend or reduce the length of the route according to local weather conditions and how things go on the day.
As well as a few 'A' roads, the route includes a couple of hills and potentially busy seaside towns and coast roads, so you'll need to be a confident and competent road cyclist with fairly good cycling fitness. Ideally you'll enjoy cycling for longer distances (circa 10 miles at a time) and be relatively comfortable cycling up most hills without an urge to get off and push. A road or light hybrid bike is recommended for this event to ensure the whole group can maintain a reasonable pace, and to ensure the advertised distance can be covered comfortably by everyone for a great day out.
Please refer to the tabbed information for further details about food/drink and what to bring along.

What to bring
Apart from your Road/Hybrid bike, remember the following:
Food and Drink - Bring (or buy) a packed lunch, snacks and plenty of water.
Puncture Repair Kit and Tools (or better still a spare inner tube) and Tyre Levers - Also bring any special tools that your bike needs.
Clothing - Choose suitable clothes and footwear for the weather forecast and time of year. You will be exercising, so lightweight layered clothing is best. Shorts are best even in rain as they allow free movement of your legs. Jeans are useless if it rains and tracksuit bottoms should not be baggy or they may snag in the chain and cause an accident.
Cycle Helmet - Outdoorlads policy asks you to wear a helmet on this event.
Eye Protection - Impact from flies, insects or grit at speed can be unpleasant and dangerous, so it's best to use some form of (non-glass) eye protection such as cycling glasses.
Water Bottle - Ideally you should bring a cycle water bottle that attaches to the frame of your bike so you can drink whilst on the move, otherwise you will only be able to drink during stops.
Bag - You are likely to need a small day-sack (or panniers on your bike) to carry essential clothing, water and food/snacks.
Food & drink
There will be opportunities to buy something for lunch, notably when we stop in Brighton, otherwise feel free to bring a packed lunch along as you'll definitely need something to eat during the day.
Energy snacks might help you sustain the day’s bike ride - bananas are also a good idea.
Bring plenty of water to avoid dehydration, although there should be plenty of places we could stop to replenish water bottles, etc. throughout the day.
