An easy 6 mile morning walk exploring the Wey Navigation, and in the afternoon enjoy the various attractions at Mercedes-Benz World plus the famous Brooklands racetrack and museum (£14.50 entrance fee for the museum).
We shall initially make our way along the Thames Path where we can see D'Oyly Carte Island, the former home of Richard D'Oyly Carte, producer of the Gilbert and Sullivan operas. We shall then follow the charming Wey Navigation to Coxes Flour Mill which continued to receive goods by water till the mid 1980s. En route we pass four historic locks until reaching the famous Brooklands racetrack and museum.
Brooklands (admission £14.50) is the birthplace of British Motorsport and Aviation and includes the world's first purpose built motor racing circuit and the site of many engineering and technological achievements throughout the 20th Century. There are historic racing cars, motorcycles and bicycles to look at, an incredible collection of London buses spanning the decades of a bygone era, and various airliners to board at the Vickers Aircraft Park, including the chance to step on board the only Concorde with visitor access in the South East of England. There is an additional £5 charge for the Concorde experience which takes 35 minutes. To avoid disappointment, you can pre-book this - a suggested slot would be for around 2pm.
Next to the museum is Mercedes Benz World which is our next stop. This is a fascinating place where you can explore the exhibition floors, learn about the history of the Mercedes Benz brand in the cinema and in the simulator be transported down a production line. Admission is free, but there is a charge if you want to do one of the driving experiences.
It is then a short 10-15 minutes walk back to our start point at Weybridge Station.
