Make the most of the Bank Holiday weekend with a Sussex Double event the Bluebell Weekender. This is the perfect time of year to enjoy the wild Bluebells. We have prepared two walks in the heart of Sussex.

The two walks are hosted by Stuart and Nelly and there is the option to join us camping at a local campsite. More details below.

Day 1 - Saturday Long Walk  - Bluebell Weekender 1/2 - Linear Walk with Steam Train start

Day 2 - Sunday Pub Lunch Walk - Bluebell Weekender 2/2 - Sunday Pub Lunch Walk - Chailey Common, Pub Lunch and option to go to Sheffield Park Gardens (National Trust)

There is a the option for a pub lunch at the Royal Oak in Newick.
Please state in the comments if you wish to be included for the Pub lunch, so that I can book a table.

Sunday Pub Lunch Walk

Starting at Sheffield Park Train Station we can take a moment to admire the surroundings and listen out for a steam train or two before starting this easy walk.

We'll head southeast from Sheffield Park Train Station, towards Chailey Common. We'll enjoy the scenic countryside views as wewalk through fields and woodlands. We'll take our time to appreciate the blooming flowers and budding trees of spring along the way.

Explore Chailey Common:

Once we reach Chailey Common, we'll take some time to explore this beautiful area.
We'll wander through the heathland and observe the wildlife that inhabits the common.
We'll look out for wildflowers, such as bluebells and primroses, which are often in bloom during spring, not forgetting the windmill which stands tall on Red House Common.

Village of Newick:

From Chailey Common, we will head southwest towards the village of Newick. As we approach Newick, we'll keep an eye out for signs of local wildlife and historic landmarks along the route.

Lunch in Newick:

Once you arrive in Newick, we plan to stop at the Royal Oak pub for lunch. We will enjoy a delicious meal while soaking up the atmosphere of this picturesque village. We'll take the opportunity to rest and refuel before continuing our walk.

Walk to Sheffield Park Gardens:

After lunch, we head northwest from Newick towards National Trust Sheffield Park Gardens.
We finish the walk just before Sheffield Park Gardens, this gives you the opportunity to explore the beautiful landscaped grounds at your leisure.

Take a leisurely stroll through the gardens, admiring the vibrant flowers and tranquil lakes.
If time allows, consider visiting the café or shop at Sheffield Park Gardens before concluding your day.

Camping

Stuart and I are camping at Kitts Camp and anybody is welcome to join us. Would be great fun to get a group of ODLs camping together!

You will need to book this independently.  We will be camping on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.

The campsite is close to Sheffield Park Station, and local facilities include 360 taproom with wood-fired pizza and The Sloop Inn pub serving quality roasts and other fare.
