An easy walk of 5 miles / 8 kilometres over fairly level ground, with around 75 metres of ascent. Ground is either gravel paths, paved or tarmac.

Join us for an afternoon walk in the green oasis of Woodbank Memorial Park if you’re in town for Stockport Pride or just looking for an afternoon walk in Stockport!  Woodbank Park is located just a short walk from Stockport’s historic market place, which is the venue for Stockport Pride 2025. The Pride event is open from 11:00 and the Parade sets off from the Underbanks at 12:00, arriving in the Market Square around 13:00.

Our leisurely walk departs from the market place at 13:30 (see members area for meet-up details) giving you time to watch the Parade, if you wish.  Returning from the walk later in the afternoon, there will then be plenty of time to join an OutdoorLads social event at Stockport Pride which will continue into the evening.  You can find details of the social event here.

The walk is around 5 miles / 8 kilometres, and as Stockport is a hilly town there will be a few ups and downs, but not too many!  Woodbank Park is about 15 mins walk from the centre of town and is located alongside the river Goyt which rises on the moors near Buxton and flows into Stockport, joining with the river Tame to form the river Mersey.  Woodbank Park is an extensive area of open grassland and riverside woodlands which was gifted to the people of Stockport by Peter Marsland, a prominent early 20th century industrialist and mayor of Stockport. The park will be looking its best in early June with the many oak and beech trees in full foliage, a green oasis not far from the town centre.  You can find a map of the park here.

If the event is fully booked: join the wait list as people frequently drop out during the week before an event and you are likely to get a place on the walk.

Dogs: well-behaved dogs are welcome on the walk, but must be under close control at all times and on a lead where necessary and where wildlife may be disturbed.

IMPORTANT! - Participation Statement
