A challenging walk taking in three of the four highest summits in Cheshire, Shutlingsloe, Whetstone Ridge and Shining Tor
Whilst much of Cheshire consists of relative flat plain, the the south east corner of the county close to the Derbyshire & Staffordshire Borders consists of moorlands and several significant peaks.
We will walk around the edge of Macclesfield Forest before ascending Shutlingsloe at a height of 506m Often referred to as the Cheshire Matterhorn due to its distinctive steep sided summit. From the summit a steep descent takes us down into Wildboarclough.
After crossing Wildboarclough we ascend to Whetstone Ridge (547m) via Cumberland Clough. A slight descent brings us to the former Cat & Fiddle Pub, which before its closure was the 2nd highest Public House in the UK. Shining Tor is then a very gradual ascent from here at 559m the highest peak in Cheshire.
From the summit of Shining Tor, a short descent returns us Lamaload Reservoir.

What to bring
The weather is unpredictable so wrap up warm and bring waterproofs.
The majority of the walk is on good paths, but short sections of mud can be expected so boots are recommended, rather than your best trainers or leather shoes.
Food & drink
Please bring a packed lunch with plenty of food and drink to last you all day.
