Stone Circles and a Massive Stride (Stanton in Peak)
21 people attending
9 places left
Starting in the village of Birchover, we will take a picturesque stroll to see a hermit's cave and Robin Hood's stride, named after the legendary figure performed the impossible leap between its rocky stacks.
We continue through the woods to meet and follow the picturesque river Lathkill where we will stop for a picnic lunch. We will continue the meander through the fields towards the village of Stanton in Peak where we may pause briefly at the Flying Childers Inn (unspoilt pub of the year 2019).
We will then venture on to Stanton Moor where we come to the prehistoric stone circle, the Nine Ladies and also the King Stone with good views East over towards Darley Dale.
What not make a day of it and join us for a Nottingham Social afterwards?

What to bring
Lunch and Water: see below
Day rucksack: typically 20-30 litres, they are comfortable to wear and allow you to use your arms freely.
Boots/walking shoes: waterproof and breathable and designed for hiking; trainers are OK if the ground is dry and there’s little chance of rain
Socks: proper walking socks will keep your feet dry and help prevent blisters
Layered clothing: lets you quickly adapt to changes in the weather and body temperature. Go for a base layer (vest or t-shirt) and a mid layer (a micro fleece or shirt) and in cooler weather add an outer layer (a windproof jacket or light fleece)
Trousers/shorts: ideally no jeans as they become heavy and cold in the rain, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry
Waterproof jacket: essential when hiking in all but the calmest of weather, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry
Sunglasses/Sun cream: can be useful even on cloudy days
