Our walk starts at the lovely little port of Lymington. The path takes us across Pennington Marshes, an important nature reserve for wading birds on the sea shore before reaching the half way point, the Hamlet of Keyhaven.
Keyhaven has a famous old smugglers pub called The Gun Inn where we will aim to get a *quick* snack lunch. Inside is a labyrinth of low open rooms which lead to a well used enclosed garden. There is said to be a good selection on the menu together with a specials board that changes daily. The crab sandwiches and crab salads are extremely popular.
After lunch we can work off the calories by heading towards Hurst Beach, an impressive shingle spit leading to Hurst Castle. We won't be able to visit the castle as it will be closed for the winter season but we should have fine views over the solent to the Isle of Wight.
We'll then continue along to the start of the Solent Way towards Milford-on-Sea passing Sturt Pond - home to many Swans and other wildlife.
