Blow out the Christmas cobwebs with a mid-week (Wednesday) scenic 11 mile circular walk amongst the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) which provides some of the best walking in southern England.

We start at Gomshall before crossing fields to the picturesque village of Shere which was the set location for the 2006 film "The Holiday" with Jude law and Cameron Diaz.

After taking in the 15th and 16th century timber framed buildings and church where the anchoress Christine Carpenter was enclosed in a cell in the 14th century, we have a relatively strenuous uphill climb which will be rewarded once we reach the famous beauty spot of Newlands Corner.

We continue on to Sherbourne Pond and the nearby Silent Pool which have been popular places with tourists since the Victorian era. We finish back in Gomshall.

If you have OS maps the route is at Shere and North Downs Way (osmaps.com)
