A Roman romp around St Albans

We will begin with a gentle paced walk around the historic city of St Albans focusing the Cathedral area and Verulamium park. There will be time for a brief visit to the Cathedral which i am told has the longest nave in England.
From there we will head into the Gorhambury Estate and get a glimpse of the roman theater and visit the ruins of the old Gorhambury house (home to both Sir Nicholas Bacon (1510-1579), who at that time was Lord Keeper of the Great Seal during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I and his son Francis (1561-1626), who was a philosopher and statesman, serving as Lord Chancellor to King James I).
We will double back to follow the River Ver path toward Redbourn to visit one of the last working watermills where you can buy posh bread/honey and pastries but alas not coffee. We will then head east and unfortunately along a section of main road for about 3/4 mile (with a safe path) before entering the Childwickbury Estate which contains the famous Childwickbury racing stud. Film director Stanley Kubrick bought the manor in 1978 and lived there until his death in 1999. His widow, Christiane Kubrick, still lives in the Manor House.
We will pass through the estate on the way back to the outskirts of St Albans and finish our day out in one of the many pubs before making our way back to the station.

Is it dog friendly?
Dogs are welcome on the walk, but please abide by the Countryside Code (https://tinyurl.com/rlqvp3h). Please also remember not everyone loves dogs as much as you do so please be mindful of other members.
