Moel Siabod is the highest peak within the Moelwynion range at 872 m. It is one of those hills that are renowned for being far enough from neighbouring peaks to offer stunning panoramas of surrounding mountain ranges. In good weather it offers exceptional views of the Snowdon Horseshoe, the Glyderau and Carneddau.

One of the advantages of the group is the potential to car share and complete linear walks. This allows us to do a variation and continue westwards to incorporate Carnedd y Cribau. If you have never heard of it, Carnedd y Cribau is hardly on any hill bagging list at a mere 591m, but with its natural infinity pool and splendid view of the Snowdon Horseshoe it is something of a gem that few people appreciate.

The route will start from Capel Curig and approach Moel Siabod from the direction of Pont Cyfyng. Brian will co-lead the walk with me, so there is the potential for the group to divide in two at one point and regroup at the summit. Some members may wish to scramble up the Daear Ddu ridge which brings you conveniently to the summit. Other members may wish to take a gentler ascent to the summit which avoids exposure and scrambling, and is more suitable if you wish to bring dogs. From the summit it is a steady descent to Carnedd y Cribau, finally ending the walk near Pen y Gwryd. Full details for the cars at each end for this linear walk will be given in the comments section.
