Cornish Easter at Lizard Point (38168)

Event Overview

Lizard Point is the most southerly tip of mainland UK and we'll be staying next to the lighthouse in this beautifully converted hostel for a Cornish Easter weekend to remember.

Dramatic cliffs, wild flowers and hidden coves characterise this gorgeous landscape, surrounded by the waves on three sides. Marconi's historic wireless experiments are celebrated at the Lizard Wireless Station and the Marconi Centre at Poldhu. Two miles north lies Kyance Cove, considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and the iconic Eden Project is but a short drive away too.

The Area

Lizard Point, with its lighthouse and adjoining youth hostel, is the most southern part of the United Kingdom (the Scilly Isles excepted). This is a land of secret coves and small fishing villages, harbouring a history of pirates, buccaneers and buried treasure.

The first sighting of the Spanish Armada on mainland Britain was off Lizard Point at 3pm on 29 July 1588. This was one of the greatest invasion fleets in history and consisted of 120 ships armed with over 1000 cannon and with 29000 men on board.

These days life is much quieter! The beach at Kyance Cove is internationally recognised as one of the most beautiful in the world and the area has become famous for its carved serpentine stone items, which range from ornaments to the pump handles in the local public house; the Lizard Inn.

Formerly a Victorian hotel acquired by the National Trust to preserve and protect this most unique location, this newly restored building now offers first-class facilities and has stunning views out to sea over Lizard Point. This is a luxury 5 star hostel situated directly underneath the Lizard Point lighthouse. This is the most southern building on mainland Britain. The dining room and lounge offer absolutely stunning views out to sea and the grounds lead directly to a small cove at the foot of the cliffs. It's a magical place!
