A magnificent 12 mile walk in the remote Ysgethin valley. We will see ancient bridges and stone-age settlements and walk along old drovers tracks and a former stage coach route.
We will meet in the village of Tal-y-Bont about 5 miles north of Barmouth on the A496. The walk starts down a path alongside Afon Ystgethin in a wooded area. Upon arrival at the ancient bridge of Pont Fadog we will set off down an old drovers route, passing cairns and a stone circle until we arrive at the Bwlch y Rhiwgyr pass. We then walk along the ridge with panoramic views of the Mawddach estuary and the coast.
We will then descend to the Ysgethin valley using the old stage-coach path, passing a memorial to Janet Haigh who walked on this track even in her eighties. We will cross the river on Pont Scethin and make our way back to the start passing standing stones and a burial chamber.
