Your First Day Outdoor Climbing at Burbage North
11 people attending
1 place left
The gritstone outcrop of Burbage Edge in the Peak District is a popular and easily accessible rock climbing destination boasting excellent grippy rock and many short routes up to 10 metres high throughout the grades.
The crag is a short walk from the road, close to Hathersage and easily accessible from Sheffield, Manchester, Leeds and Nottingham.
To attend this outdoor climbing event you will have climbed indoors (preferably with Outdoorlads) before and you will be competent with tying in with a figure 8 knot and belaying. If you do not have this experience, it will depend on the availability of suitably experienced leaders, as to whether you would be able to attend this event. If that is the case please message the event leader to discuss, before registering.
*** More places may become available nearer the event, depending on the availability of leaders ***

Please note that outdoor rock climbing is very weather dependent, if it rains the event may be cancelled or we could just go for a hike instead or go to the indoor climbing wall in Sheffield, depending on what people prefer. Attendees will be kept informed of any change via the messaging system on this website.
This event is specially put on and tailored for those who have climbed indoors, but who have never climbed outdoors before and would like to give it a try! Whilst priority will be given to catering for those who have never climbed outside before, people who have climbed outside before are also welcome depending on availability of leaders.
Participation statement
As a BMC Affiliate member, Outdoorlads draws your attention to the fact that climbing is an activity with a danger of personal injury or death. You should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for your own actions and involvement.
Please note that every person participating should be aware of (and accept) that those members perceived as ‘in charge’ or leading the event are not necessarily qualified, do not need to be qualified, and are not regarded by OutdoorLads, or themselves as ‘technical experts’ but are amateur climbers with some experience and who are happy to impart their knowledge. Any advice given should be considered with this in mind by the recipient.
What to bring
Bring clothes suitable for spending the day outdoors (including a waterproof) and wear boots or trainers for the walk to the crag. Bring whatever climbing gear you have. At the very least you need to have a harness and a helmet (message the event leader if you do not own these items as we have a few that we can lend out if requested in advance). It is highly recommended that you have your own climbing shoes (message the event leader for options if you don't).
Food & drink
You will need a packed lunch, and drinks to last you the day as we will spend the day on the crag. If you need to stock up on the morning of the event, there is a Spar nearby in Hathersage. There may also be the opportunity to retreat to a nearby pub in Hathersage for food/drink at the end of the day.
