Woolwich Indoor Climbing & Bouldering - Experienced Only
4 people attending
6 places left
Join us for leisurely Sunday afternoon of climbing and/or bouldering at South London's biggest indoor centre!
With a great range of top rope climbs, auto belays and bouldering areas there's something for every climbing style and taste. Where this centre really stands out though is for those wishing to challenge themselves on lead: there's a phenomenal selection of lead routes including the amazingly challenging lead roof, so don't forget your rope!
I've never climbed before, can I come along?
If you've never climbed before then you will need to attend one of our all-ability sessions where we can arrange for you to be signed into the climbing centre as a supervised climber. This session is aimed at experienced climbers getting back indoors.
Supervised sessions
If you're unsure whether you need to be signed in as a supervised climber or not, if you answer NO to any of the following three questions, then you will need to arrange to be supervised. If you can answer YES to all these questions, you can sign up to this event as normal:
1. Can you fit a climbing harness correctly?
2. Can you tie yourself to the end of a rope using the correct knots?
3. Can you belay another climber correctly and confidently?
We're looking to restart supervised all-ability events in October so please keep a look out on the website.
Can I just come along and boulder?
Absolutely! You can sign yourself in to boulder at any time, as long as you can fill in the climbing centre's forms correctly, watch their safety video and can answer the simple safety questions at reception on your first visit. If you're bouldering, you can join the other climbers in the break and afterwards in the pub.
Participation Statement
You MUST complete a Participation Statement, in addition to booking your event space before attending an OutdoorLads event. You only need to complete this Participation Statement once, not for each event you attend.
Please note that every person participating should be aware of (and accept) that those members perceived as ‘in charge’ or leading the event are not necessarily qualified, do not need to be qualified, and are not regarded by OutdoorLads, or themselves as ‘technical experts’ but are amateur climbers with some experience and who are happy to impart their knowledge. Any advice given should be considered with this in mind by the recipient.
All those attending the event must also be aware of the centre's own terms and conditions of participation and abide by them, along with any instructions given by the centre’s staff. Everyone must also take responsibility for their own safety while participating in Indoor climbing events.
COVID-19 – IMPORTANT, Please read the following before you sign up to this event:
- Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms, even if they are extremely mild, or who lives or is in a support bubble with someone showing symptoms, is asked not to attend. This is in line with the government’s coronavirus advice.
- You must also immediately self-isolate and not attend the event if you or someone in your household or support bubble shows coronavirus symptoms or tests positive. Read the NHS self-isolation guidance.
- OutdoorLads strongly encourages all attendees to take a rapid lateral flow test immediately prior to attending an event. This will help to keep everyone safe. Order free Rapid Lateral Flow Tests.

What to bring
If you have your own climbing gear, you can bring this along, but please make sure it is in good condition. If you do not have your own, you can hire everything you need directly from the centre. As a minimum you will need some rock shoes, a climbing harness and a belay set (belay plate and a screw-gate karabiner, or a gri-gri if you know how to use one safely). If you’d like to lead climb, you will also need to bring your climbing rope.
What to Wear
It is best to wear either shorts, combats or tracksuit bottoms with a t-shirt or vest. No jeans or any form of trouser which hampers movement. If you have any OutdoorLads branded clothing then please try and wear this as it will give the group a good level of visibility.
Any jewellery such as rings, watches, chains or bangles should be removed before beginning the session to prevent injury.
Changing facilities and showers are available at the centre, as are lockers to keep your stuff safe - these take a pound coin which you get back.
Food & drink
We'll meet in the Cafe beyond reception which sells sandwiches, cakes, snacks and drinks beforehand and aim to start climbing at 15:00. Water fountains are also available to fill up your water bottle.
