Spring is just around the corner and with longer days and hopefully better weather on the way join us for a weekend in Somerset on the mystical Isle of Avalon. Steeped in legends, magic and mystery Glastonbury Tor is the centerpiece of King Arthur’s realm and the heart of Avalon. Wells Cathedral and Wookey Hole Caves are nearby and there’s some great country walks to be had, so we won’t be short of things to do.
We’ll be staying in nearby Street – once occupied by the Romans Street is 2 miles south-west of Glastonbury and home to the Clarks Outlet Shopping village if you fancy a bit of bargain hunting too!
Accommodation: Opened in 1931, YHA Street is the oldest YHA hostel still in operation today. It’s a quirky and compact Swiss-style chalet that’s surrounded by National Trust land and has recently been refurbished, with major improvements to all the communal areas, bedrooms and washing facilities, and has central heating.
Itinerary
Friday Evening: Arrive, meet others and socialise, we’ll have the usual Outdoor lads buffet, and possibly an evening activity followed by the welcome meeting.
Saturday Day: After breakfast (which is included in the event cost), we’ll head out to visit Glastonbury, climb the tor, and relax at the White Spring Sanctuary. We'll aim for lunch in Glastonbury itself, so there should be options for sandwiches there.
Saturday Evening: Dinner is included in the event cost, after which we may have an activity to join in if you wish.
Sunday: After breakfast (included in the event cost) you are either free to go home or join in a possible activity such as a visit to the Wells Cathedral, and maybe end up at a local pub for a Sunday roast before heading home.
Dogs: Sorry but the event is not suitable for dogs.
