Join Samuel for a stroll from the town of Tamworth on the south Staffordshire/ Warwickshire borders.
Tamworth was a principal centre of royal power of the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Mercia during the 8th and 9th centuries.
Tamworth has a varied historical past from the Roman British Coritani tribe settlements, through the middle ages where there was a mint; to the industrial where with the completion of the Coventry canal and the town became a textiles town with the "Parsley Peel" pattern cloth being produced upto modern history of the founding place of "Reliant Motor Car Company" Scimitar four wheeled sports cars and the Robin three wheeled economy cars were manufactured in Tamworth before its factory moved to near by Cannock.
We’ll begin from the Jolly Sailor Car Park, cross over the river Tame through the town park, passing the Anglo-Saxon 12th century elevated castle, through the town before joining and following the river Anker by bridle paths across fields to meet the Coventry canal. We'll the follow the canal to the aqueduct before re-joining the river Tame back to the car park. Following this there will be the opportunity for an informal drink or grabbing a light bite if you wish to do so.
