Triple waterways and wetland wildlife walk

We will be walking along 3 very different waterways to take us from Nottingham city centre out to Cotgrave village. We will head south of the city following the Beeston & Nottingham canal until we hit the river Trent and the home of Nottingham Forest FC. We follow the Trent riverside briefly until we take a side spur and trace the disused Grantham canal as far as Cotgrave. The canal closed to boating in 1929 and since then nature has reclaimed it and it is now a valuable wetland habitat. So expect to see plenty of swans, coots and other wetland birds. We will leave the canal as it passes through Cotgrave Country Park, the site of an old Colliery, and head into town. After a late lunch pub stop in Cotgrave we will get the bus back to Nottingham.
What to bring
The path is entirely flat so trainers are sufficient. Remember - suncream if its sunny and waterproofs if not. Bring some cash for the bus back to Nottingham (Trent Barton - the Cotgrave line - £3 single, or use a mango card)
Food & drink
Whilst we will stop for a some snacks along the way, for those that can hold out there is a nice pub in Cotgrave where we can have a late lunch.
