Join me for a moderate 10 mile walk through the Derbyshire countryside. We will set off from the tearooms at Meynell Langley Gardens-time for a coffee if you need it. We will mostly use public footpaths to traverse the fields around Kedleston Hall and the villages that surround it. We will enjoy the views and the history of the area and a pint of some local ale.
As we leave Meynell Langley we will take a path across the fields towards the village of Muggington. We will pass through Weston Underwood and onto the outskirts of the village of Quarndon where Henry Royce once lived and visit its public house. After refreshing ourselves in the Joiners Arms we will cross the permanent pasture to get to the edge of the National Trust run estate at Kedleston Hall.
The route will take us down the impressive drive to this fine stately home before returning for tea and cake at the finish line.
What to bring
The weather may be changeable and it will certainly be very muddy in places. Please bring sturdy walking boots with good ankle support. Please bring waterproof trousers and a waterproof coat in case it rains. Be sure to check the weather forecast nearer the time to anticipate bringing suitable attire.
Food & drink
We will be stopping at a pub en route for a drink. Please make sure you bring a packed lunch and any snacks for the rest of the walk. Please bring at least a litre of water.
