Back in 1956 the Gower Peninsula was designated Britain’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and it’s not hard to see why. It boasts 34 miles of breathtaking coastline and 50 unspoilt beaches. And of all the coves and bays thereabouts, Port Eynon is amongst the finest.

The village of Port Eynon (which is around 18 miles from Swansea and 24 miles from J47 of the M4) is on the most southerly point of the Gower peninsula, with an award winning beach. It’s backed by a wooded headland for shady walks and sits on the Wales Coastal Path, ideally situated for walks to the stunning Rhossili and Oxwich beaches.

Dramatic limestone cliffs, interspersed with sandy beaches and rocky shores, dominate its southern coast. Along the coastal path is Worm’s Head, historically named 'Wurm' meaning 'dragon' by Viking invaders, it’s a tidal island and marks the most westerly tip of the Gower.

To the north is the village of Rhosilli, famous for its surfing, the beautiful sandy beach is three miles long and is backed with sand dunes. In June 2011, almost four hundred people attempted to break the world record for the largest number of people skinny dipping at one time in the sea at Rhosilli!

Whilst skinning dipping is off the cards there’ll be plenty more sights to see! So come and join us for a glorious weekend in the stunning Gower.

Accommodation

Borfa House is in the heart of Port Eynon, situated in grounds bordering the sand dunes and beach; it has a large garden with picnic benches and a BBQ. There are 32 beds arranged across 11 rooms, nine of which have their own private bathroom. In total there are nine showers and 11 toilets.

There are two large multi-activity rooms - a TV lounge and a dining room which seats 32 people. There is also a table tennis table. There is a large garden at the back of the property with a barbeque and picnic tables.

The house has been completely refurbished and is centrally heated throughout, though hopefully we won’t need it!

Itinerary

Friday Evening: Arrive, meet the rest of the group and socialise. We'll be having a traditional OutdoorLads buffet for the evening meal, followed by a welcome meeting and a possible evening activity.

Saturday Day: After breakfast (which is included in the event cost), we’ll head out into the local countryside for a good walk, perhaps with a stop off on the way for some refreshment in one of the local pubs, depending on the walk route!

Saturday Evening: Relax, socialise & chill out before, during and after an evening meal – all things permitting a summer garden barbie. (Included in the event cost.)

Sunday: After breakfast (also included in the event cost), we’ll tidy up the hostel and then you are free to go home or join a leisurely activity and/or Sunday lunch, before heading home.
