Stunning clifftop location, looking straight out over the ocean, on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path; within walking distance of the pubs, Cathedral, cafes and shops of Britain’s smallest city. Also right next to Porthclais harbour, within walking distance of St David’s Head and the appropriately named Whitesands Bay renowned surfing location; and a short drive from the Abereiddy Red Bull World Cliff Diving Championships site.
Saint David’s has its own rapidly changing micro-climate, we could be lucky enough to witness impressive Atlantic storms and be sunbathing on the fine sand beaches; so bring a good tent with long pegs, your waterproofs, sun hat and sunscreen. Whatever the weather, coastal walks will be available; if you’d prefer to be indoors, the Cathedral, visitor centre and small local shops and galleries are well worth exploring. Maybe one night we’ll find our own small inlet, in which to build a cosy driftwood fire. There are cash machines and even a supermarket in the city for those that want to self-cater and a range of cafes, restaurants and pubs where it is easy to buy breakfast, lunch and dinner if you prefer.
What to bring
Please review the Outdoorlads kit lists for a general guide. In case it’s stormy, it’s best to have a robust medium size tent with long pegs.
If you are going to be cooking, bring cooking eqipment.
If you are going to be participating in the coastal walks, bring daywalk equipment; walking boots are best, if you bring walking shoes, they need to have a fairly aggressive tread pattern and you will most likely end up with wet feet. You will need waterproofs, a rucksack, packed lunch, water, warm clothes and sunhat/sunscreen.
Food & drink
Whether you purchase meals in St Davids or prepare your own is your choice. Be mindful that shops have limited opening hours, although the last time I checked, CK’s supermarket was opening from 7am to 8pm (except Sundays).
