South Midweek Walk 2022 - Storrington Scarp Scramble
4 people attending
6 places left
Join Justin and Matt for a circular 7 mile walk starting from St Mary's Church Storrington. We Will head straight up onto the downs via a fairly steep bridleway to join a path parallel to the South Downs Way where we will turn right and and eventually merge onto the Southdowns way at Kithurst hill car park. We will continue anly the South downs Ways for a few miles before turning on a bridleway down the scarp slope again. Crossing the B2139, we go along the quiet Rackham St through, surprisingly Rackham, until we reach the entrance to Parham House Deer Park. We walk along the whole park, past ancient trees and Parham House itself, and if lucky, and not making too much noise (very likely) we might see some deer and other creatures.
We emerge unto the A283, past the gliding field and a short walk to the Country pub of Coolham where we can stop for a drink and some food (may be necessary to order in advance depending when the kitchen closes). If this is not possible for any reason, back up plan i would be fish and chips.
From here, if daylight is on our side, we can go via a footpath through a small wood and back to Storrington centre on small lanes and the recreation/cricket ground and quiet housing.
There is no late public transport so arriving by car is unfortunately the only option on this walk.
Check out other mid week walks in the area by searching on "South Midweek Walk 2022" - Note this year the majority of walks are on Tuesdays not Wednesdays as previous years.
