You need to be fit enough to safely move around the yacht. Technically, if you have never sailed before then the Competent Crew qualification is perfect for you. If you want to complete the Coastal Skipper qualification then you need to be at that level.

Join us for a week of adventure sailing around North Wales. Destinations will depend on the weather but its likely to include circumnavigating Anglesey or heading south around the Llyn Peninsula.

This is an RYA Cruising course week where you will have the chance to complete your Competent Crew or Coastal Skipper qualifications. Details of the course are here.

The Anglesey coastline is famous for beautiful beaches, stunning cliffs and challenging navigation. The Menai strait between the mainland and Anglesey is especially renowned. Apparently Admiral Lord Nelson claimed that if you can navigate the strait then you can navigate anywhere. If the weather permits then we may cruise south to Nefyn and the Ty Coch Inn at Porth Dinllaen and through Bardsey Sound to Pwllheli or anchor off Abersoch.

The sailing will be onboard Menai IV, the sail training yacht for the national watersports centre Plus Menai. Menai IV is a modern boat (38ft Hanse 385) with 3 private cabins and kitted out with all the latest safety and cruising gear. Commercially coded by RYA/MCA as category 2 compliant the yacht can carry 6 people including the Skipper. Facilities onboard include; heating, hot water, cooker, fridge, toilet, Radar, GPS and AIS.

The price for the week includes meals onboard. The boat will be stocked to provide three meals per day as well as snacks and drinks. If you have any special dietary requirements please note them when booking.

Note: The yacht accommodates 5. We need at least 4 people to run this week. If we don’t have confirmed bookings for 4 people before <date tba but needs to be a few months out> then we will invite the membership of the Gay Sailing Club to join us. In the event that we still don’t have enough confirmed bookings by <date to be agreed with PM> then Plas Menai will add the dates to their public calendar for open bookings.

Booking: You should book onto this event and also reserve your place by contacting Plas Menai <details to follow> you will need to book directly with Plas Menai to agree their T&C and to pay them directly.
