Polegate, Jevington & The Long Man of Wilmington, Sussex

This walk takes us over the inland spur of downland well behind the coastal landmark of Beachy Head and includes both the South Downs Way and the 1066 Country Walk at times.
We will have great views over the landscape of the low weald of East Sussex as we explore the villages of Jevington and Wilmington and gaze at the vast outline of the famous Long Man.
We shall travel in a fairly wide loop which initially takes us away from the Downs as we pass close to woodland before turning South towards the higher ground. We will see the Long Man from top and bottom (not his) and then walk over the Downs to descend to Jevington where we will hopefully visit a nice pub.
Thence, back up again, to reach the Eastern edge of the South Downs and hopefully good views across Eastbourne to the sea before we descend to Willingdon and suburbia and maybe another pub as well.

Food & drink
Please bring a packed lunch and plenty of water. In mid April it may be quite warm if we are lucky. There are shops near the station but you won't have much time to go to them. There aren't shops en route.
