Total distance of 25.5 km (approx. 15.5 miles). Flat, on paved towpaths. Climb of 20m total. Approximately 7 hours including lunch.

The linear walk from Parbold to Maghull follows a stretch of the 204km (127.25 miles) Leeds & Liverpool Canal, which opened in 1816 after more than 40 years of construction.

This is Stage 7 of 8 which will span the full length of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.

Starting in the charming village of Parbold, the route weaves through the heart of Lancashire’s countryside and heritage with a blend of rural tranquility and industrial echoes.

We'll take in a very peaceful stretch of the canal with wildflowers and even a sunflower field, but we're never far from the clues of the canal's industrial heritage. The path skirts around Ormskirk before heading south to Maghull where our walk finishes.

It's recommended to travel by public transport, but for anyone driving you'll need to check your return journey (more details under the map). The best option will depend on your individual onward travel plans.
