Flat walking, some off path, 5km. You will need to concentrate!

Never really looked at a map but want to learn how to read one? Haven't really looked at one since Scouts? Or simply want to brush up on your navigation skills? Then this relaxed afternoon event is just for you!

Come and join us in the heart of Cardiff as we take on the permanent orienteering course at Sophia Gardens, next to the historic Castle. We will provide tuition starting from the very basics and cover the essentials to enable you to read a map and navigate accurately between given points, all in the safety of one of Cardiff's most picturesque parks.

We will use the course installed by the South Wales Orienteering Club (SWOC) to learn, develop and hone the skills needed to navigate in any environment. This is ideal if you are thinking of becoming a leader, or are an existing leader or simply want to practice your navigation skills.

After we have worked on our skills we have a debrief in one of the many local cafes or pubs. Why not join us afterwards at the Cardiff Social and make a day of it.

This is the first of a series of events designed to build your confidence using a map and navigating, using a variety of easily accessible and safe environments. We will build to taking part in a local SWOC event to test our new skills in a proper orienteering event. Lycra and running are optional!
