The Naden Valley and Healey Dell

Our 7.5 mile walk explores the Naden Valley with its reservoirs and upland pasture and the Cotton Famine Road with its rich heritage, built by unemployed millworkers when cotton supplies dried up as a result of the American Civil War. The road then leads us down towards the gorge-like Healey Dell, with the fast flowing River Spodden, woodland, industrial heritage and the Fairies Chapel. There are several farmsteads and hamlets such as Prickshaw that will form part of the interest along the route.
Part of the walk follows the recently formed Greater Manchester Ringway. www.gmringway.org . The Ringway has provided Outdoorlads with several superb walks already, led by Kevin (kvnmnc) and there are a few still to come in the future along its 200 mile route so keep an eye out on the events pages for his upcoming walks along the Ringway.

What to bring
Medicines: if you have hay fever, diabetes, minor ailments etc.

Socks: proper walking socks will keep your feet dry and help prevent blisters
