The aim of these Welsh Heritage Walks is to highlight the rich and diverse cultural heritage of this part of the country, to celebrate that which we have on our doorstep and is often taken for granted or simply forgotten in today's hectic world.

For much of the start of the route the trail follows the route of an ambitious tram road carved into the Welsh hillsides by an aptly named Thomas Hill. It passes Garn Ddyrys, home of Cordell's heroic Mortymers, and is at the heart of the Blaenavon World Heritage Site.

The meeting point was man made in 1824 to provide water for the Garn Ddyrys Forge, which in its heyday produced 300 tons of iron a week. This former industrial landscape is now awarded SSSI status, with its coal pools now rich in dragon fly and nesting birds reclaiming the sheer limestone cliffs.

Passing above the ancient town of Abergavenny we will eventually come to another man made pond called The Punchbowl. From there we will ascend the Blorenge and will be rewarded by a cairn marking the spot of a bronze age burial ground, before descending and heading back to the start point
