Climbing at Loudoun Hill
3 people attending
3 places left
Another chance to try some outdoor climbing before the nights start drawing in as a change to our usual weekly visits to the Glasgow Climbing Centre.
Situated on the boundary between South Lanarkshire and East Ayrshire, Loudoun Hill is a prominent volcanic plug towering over the upper Irvine Valley and offers range of climbing routes of varying grades.
The event is open to all abilities, but ideally you should have some experience of climbing - either indoor or outdoor.
Participation statement
As a BMC Affiliate member, Outdoorlads draws your attention to the fact that climbing is an activity with a danger of personal injury or death. You should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for your own actions and involvement.
Please note that every person participating should be aware of (and accept) that those members perceived as ‘in charge’ or leading the event are not necessarily qualified, do not need to be qualified, and are not regarded by OutdoorLads, or themselves as ‘technical experts’ but are amateur climbers with some experience and who are happy to impart their knowledge. Any advice given should be considered with this in mind by the recipient.
What to bring
The leader will be in touch before the event to ensure that between us we bring enough climbing gear, guidebooks etc. At a minimum you will need to bring your own climbing shoes, and arrange with the leader in advance if you need to borrow a helmet and/or climbing harness.
What to Wear
It is best to wear either shorts, combats or tracksuit bottoms. No jeans or any form of trouser which hampers movement. A t-shirt or vest is also suitable.
Bring a warmer layer in case it cools down later in the evening.
Any jewellery such as rings, watches, chains or bangles should be removed before climbing to prevent injury.
Food & drink
Bring something to eat during the evening and plenty of water to avoid dehydration.
