Our Route:
Join us on this linear (one-way) 8 mile cross country heritage walk through the lowlands in the heart of Eryri National Park.
We'll pass the famous Swallow falls and hike across the Gwydir Forest from Betwys Y Coed to the Conwy Valley at Llanrwst.
Lead and zinc mining once dominated area, the industry is long gone but the remains of Cyffty and Hafna mines have been partially restored and made safe for visitors.
Our route intially follows the River Llugwy out of Betws' where we will see the 'rock cannons' used for setting off fireworks for celebrations.
After an hour on the Snowdonia Slate trail long distance path we will find ourselves at the famous Swallow Falls where the river plunges east towards it's junction with the River Conwy.
From the falls we will turn north and there's a bit of ascent to do until we reach a pleasant viewpoint to stop for lunch.
We cross forest-clad hillsides, and the next part of the route takes us past some rather interesting lead mines which retain some of the structures and buildings from the time.
The last mile or so takes us back down to Llanrwst and an historical cafe by the river, for optional tea and cakes etc.
Photos: AndyM, event leader - taken from a previous trip, these give you a sense of the landscape you'll see.
Bad Weather: This event will be altered or cancelled if persistent heavy rain, high winds, lightning or poor visibility is forecast - you will be notified by at least 18:00 hours the night before in this case.
Dogs: are welcome to join us on this event but please note the following:
We may pass through areas with livestock where your dog needs to be on a lead. There are places with steep drops into fast moving water where an adventurous dog may be in peril.
Not everyone likes dogs so please ensure your furry pal doesn't worry other members.
There may be obstacles to carry your dog across, and your dog needs to have the stamina to keep up with the group.
