Corserine and the Rhinns of Kells

A high, airy ridge with big Galloway views, steady climbing, and a real sense of journey.
The Rhinns of Kells rise above the eastern edge of the Galloway Forest Park, in the south-west corner of Scotland and make for a fine ridge walk, the highest of its three peaks being Corserine at 814m, one of just seven Corbetts in the Scottish Southern Uplands.
Our walk will traverse the ridge in an anti-clockwise direction and if conditions are favourable we should enjoy some fine views across the Galloway Hills towards the Ailsa Craig and Arran in the West, the rolling hills of the Scottish Borders to the east and the Lake District to the south. If it is really clear we may even see the Isle of Man and Northern Ireland.
We will follow the route described on WalkHighlands.
Photos: taken on a previous visit to the Galloway hills in April 2019 (we'll try and get the flag the right way round this time!)
What to bring
Water: bring at least two litres
Medicines: if you have hay fever, diabetes, minor ailments etc.
Day rucksack: typically 20-30 litres, they are comfortable to wear and allow you to use your arms freely
Boots: waterproof and breathable and designed for hiking, trainers are OK if the ground is dry and there’s little chance of rain
Gaiters: recommended for wet weather or boggy conditions
Socks: proper walking socks will keep your feet dry and help prevent blisters
