Fancy staying, in the middle of the Glenmore forest, in the Cairngorm National Park surrounded by forests, Loch Morlich, Loch An Eilein and the Cairngorm mountain range?
Hillwalking, cycling, running, kayaking and paddle boarding all on your doorstep!! We also intend to offer Conservation events which proved popular in 2024.
This event page is for those who would like to stay in a Lodge at Badaguish. You could also camp - see this separate event page.
The lodges are very spacious and comfortable with a large lounge, dining area and well equipped kitchen ( see photos). Each lodge sleeps 11 - 1 triple en suite, 3 twins (2 en suite), 2 singles. If you have any specific requests to share a room or request to share with friends in a specific lodge, please message the event leader - requests are on a first come, first served basis and the leaders will endeavour to accommodate any requests, but please bear in mind this may not always be possible.
The event price covers the cost of the accommodation on a self catering basis. You can cook your own food, or get together with others and cook a group meal in your lodge, which has worked well on past events (a telegram group will be set up for each lodge approx 7 days before the event). There is small charge included to cover the cost of running the events including communal hiring of activities hall, welcome drink on the 1st evening at the event briefing, BBQ area hire, cost of charcoal, snacks and desserts for the BBQ). Bring your own drinks and food to cook on the BBQ.
Evening events:
Friday 20:30 - Welcome Drink & social (activities hall)
Saturday 19:00 - BBQ (BBQ bothy)
Sunday 20:00 - Quiz (activities hall)
Monday 20:00 - Social around the campfire π₯
Tuesday 18:30 - Drinks, group meal & social (The Penny Bun)
Telegram group (set up one week prior to the event): A whiteboard will be placed under the gazebo and updated daily with a list of all activities and events available each day. Each evening, a daily update will also be sent to group members with the schedule of activities planned for the following day.
The location is 1100ft high in the forest with great views and lots of different options on the doorstep without having to move your car! The closest railway station is Aviemore (5 miles away) with several trains and buses to Inverness, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Direct flights from London Gatwick, Bristol and Birmingham to Inverness airport which has good bus and train links into Inverness.
Please note: OutdoorLads will be sharing the site with other guests. No noise is permitted after 11pm and participants must respect the other guests staying on site.
Dogs and campervans / caravans etc: Sorry, no dogs allowed and campervans are not permitted at Badaguish.
PAY IN INSTALMENTS If you would prefer to pay in monthly instalments, please contact the office team (or raise a support ticket) and we can discuss the options available to you, depending on the time available between booking and the event taking place. There will be additional terms and conditions to agree to before you commit. You won't pay anything extra to pay in instalments. You will need to be paid up on month before the event starts.

What to bring
In Short:
Please pack according to the weather. The route may be muddy in places, hiking boots, waterproofs, warm clothing, a small rucksack, food and drink are recommended.
Boots: Hiking boots are arguably the most essential piece of kit when hiking just about anywhere. Walkers should make sure that their boots are both waterproof and breathable, and provide good ankle support. Boots should also be in good condition.
Socks: A good comfy pair of walking socks is essential really; they keep your feet warm and drier than normal socks.
Gaiters: Gaiters attach to the bottom of walking boots and extend to just under the knee. They provide waterproofing for the bottom half of the leg. They are not essential to have but you will feel the difference if you have them when walking through muddy or boggy ground - which is almost guaranteed in Scotland.
Walking Trousers: You should have a suitable pair of trousers for walking in, jeans are not suitable as they take on water when wet and will make you cold. The same goes for jogging pants/tracksuit clothing.
Waterproof Trousers: Waterproof trousers are essential in case of wet weather. They are also good to be worn as a second layer as they can act as a windproof barrier, keeping the legs warm.
Base Layer: A breathable base layer should be chosen in order to let sweat escape from the body. This could be a cheaper sports top or you could go top of the range with a merino wool top. Avoid cotton T-Shirts as these will become damp and uncomfortable when climbing a mountain.
Other Layers: On top of your base layer, you can have a variety of options such as a micro fleece, a fleece jacket or a rugby/sports top can sometimes be good. Having one or two additional layers gives you flexibility when the weather is changeable β the more layers, the more flexible you can be in adapting to the weather.
Waterproof Jacket: A good waterproof jacket is one of the most important pieces of kit you will require when hiking. Walkers should look for a jacket that is both waterproof and breathable in order for them to be protected from sweat. Materials such as Gore-tex are often the best choices but they can be expensive unless you shop sensibly, donβt forget your OutdoorLads discount for Full Members at Cotswold outlets.
Hat: As most heat is lost through the head a good hat is essential. Consider carrying a second one in case your first blows away (it happens).
Gloves: Gloves are recommended for the mountains (even in May in Scotland on the summits), windproof or better still waterproof gloves are the best choice. Consider carrying a second pair in case your first ones get wet or blow away.
Rucksack: A good Rucksack that is comfortable to wear is essential, and required to carry both food and equipment. Day sacks should have a capacity of around 30 litres. As an option you could store your items in waterproof bags inside just in-case or ensure the bag has a waterproof bag to pull over the top.
Mobile Phone: If you choose to bring your phone, then you are well advised to buy a waterproof bag or if that is not possible a simple food/freezer bag will suffice.
Food & drink
Day Activities:
Bring a packed lunch, plenty snacks, water (min 2 litres recommended) , and a flask of tea or coffee is always handy!
Aldi, Tesco & M & S are available in Aviemore. There is also a farm shop & Deli at Rothiemurchus 3 miles from the campsite ideal for buying food for the BBQ. No food is provided - you will need to provide for yourself for the duration of the event.
