This is a linear walk from Burnley to Blackburn along a stretch of the 204km (127.25 miles) Leeds & Liverpool Canal, blending industrial heritage with peaceful countryside.
This is walk stage 4 of 8 spanning the full length of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.
We pick up our journey, re-joining the "straight mile", a 3/4 mile embankment above the town with great views. We'll pass through the historic Weavers’ Triangle, where restored mills, warehouses, and canal buildings tell the story of the town’s textile past. Out of town the towpaths gets quieter, with open views, wildlife, and a gentle, relaxed feel.
As we approach Blackburn, we return to the urban sprawl of industrialisation, with old mills and stone bridges lining the water. The route finishes with the impressive Blackburn Locks, a flight of locks that lifts the canal into the town and provides a satisfying sense of arrival.
We'll catch a bus or train back to Burnley (for those that need to return) - the best option will depend on your individual onward travel plans.
