Join Andy and OutdoorLads for a spectacular Big Spring Camp hike. Setting off from camp on foot to Fairy Falls (Rhaeadr Y Tylwyth Teg)  at Trefriw !

Nestled in the heart of the beautiful Conwy Valley, this enchanting walk from our home for the long weekend at OutdoorLads Big Spring Camp offers a wonderful opportunity to discover one of North Wales’ hidden gems — the magical Fairy Falls at Trefriw.

Starting from the rugby club in Llanrwst, we will follow peaceful riverside paths and scenic countryside tracks, surrounded by the stunning landscapes of Eryri (Snowdonia). The route gently winds alongside the River Conwy, with wonderful views of the surrounding hills, ancient woodland, and traditional Welsh villages that make this area so special. The walk itself is largely easy-going, making it ideal for a relaxed social outing where everyone can enjoy both the scenery and the company.

As we make our way towards Trefriw, the atmosphere becomes increasingly magical. Hidden amongst the trees lies the famous Fairy Falls — a picturesque cascade on the River Crafnant, where water tumbles gracefully over smooth rock formations into the woodland below. The falls, known locally as Rhaeadr y Tylwyth Teg, have long been associated with folklore and Victorian fascination with fairies, adding a touch of mystery and legend to this already beautiful corner of Wales.

The woodland paths around the falls provide the perfect place to pause, take photographs, and simply enjoy the calming sound of rushing water beneath the forest canopy. In spring, the surrounding landscape bursts into life with vibrant greenery, birdsong, and fresh mountain air, creating an unforgettable walking experience. The route also offers glimpses of the rich industrial and natural heritage of Trefriw, once famous for its woollen mills and riverside industries.

One of the highlights of this walk is the social atmosphere that OutdoorLads' events are known for. Whether walking alongside old friends or meeting new people for the first time, there will be plenty of opportunities to chat, laugh, and enjoy the spectacular surroundings together. The gentle pace allows everyone to fully appreciate the scenery while sharing stories and making new memories along the way.

This delightful walk perfectly combines stunning scenery, fascinating local folklore, peaceful woodland trails, and the welcoming camaraderie of the OutdoorLads community — making it a memorable adventure during the Big Spring Camp in Llanrwst and our 20th birthday !
