This is one of the events organised as part of Big Spring Camp 2026.
An easy-going, scenic day walk from the campsite with a lakeside lunch stop and a visit to a second lake on the way back.
We'll walk from the campsite up through the forest to get magnificent views of the hills of Snowdonia, visit an 11th Century chapel right out in the fields and meander along the edge of Llyn Geirionydd. We will stop here for lunch (there are toilets here but no shop). We will head over to our second lake, Llyn Crafnant, before a gradual descent to the village of Trefriw, where we will make a pitstop at the 'Fairy Falls' before heading back to camp.
Note: the 'Llyn Crafnant' walk on Sunday is very similar to this one, so you won't probably want to do both.

What to bring
Lunch and Water: see below
Day rucksack: typically 20-30 litres, they are comfortable to wear and allow you to use your arms freely. If you are paddling your feet, a small towel.
Boots: waterproof and breathable and designed for hiking; trainers are OK if the ground is dry and there’s little chance of rain
Socks: proper walking socks will keep your feet dry and help prevent blisters
Layered clothing: lets you quickly adapt to changes in the weather and body temperature. Go for a base layer (vest or t-shirt) and a mid layer (a micro fleece or shirt) and in cooler weather add an outer layer (a windproof jacket or thick fleece)
Trousers/shorts: ideally no jeans as they become heavy and cold in the rain, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry
Waterproof jacket: essential when hiking in all but the calmest of weather, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry
Sunglasses/Sun cream: can be useful even on cloudy days
Medicines: if you have hay fever, diabetes, minor ailments etc.
Folding sit mat: Optional, but can be nice to sit on for lunch.
Food & drink
Bring food and drink for the duration of the walk (we will not be passing any shops). I suggest a few snacks, a packed lunch and at least 1 litre of water. If the weather is cold I like to bring a thermos of tea/coffee too.
