This is one of the events organised as part of Big Spring Camp 2026.
What are the Saturday Outdoor Games?
Think of it as the ultimate playground for grown-ups! This is a relaxed, member-led session designed for those who want to enjoy the fresh air with some classic competitive fun. Whether you're looking for a high-energy match or a low-stakes way to pass the afternoon, we’ve transformed the grass area into a multi-game arena featuring everything from giant floor mats to precision tossing games.
What to expect?
From 2:00pm on Saturday, the games area is yours. This isn't a structured tournament with a stressful bracket; it’s a self-governing social session where you can jump in and out of games as you please. You can expect a variety of challenges, including:
- Badminton: It’s time to serve! Grab a partner and handle your racket with care. We’ve got plenty of birds to go around, so feel free to smash that shuttle-cock as hard as you like, just try to keep it inside the lines, boys.
- Twister Ultimate: A massive plastic mat twice the size of the original. It’s a test of flexibility and balance (and a great way to get to know your fellow campers intimately).
- Giant Snakes & Ladders: You are the counter! Navigate the 3m x 3m board, but watch out for the "Bitten by Dog" square, nobody likes a nasty nip in the grass.
- Ring Toss & Bocce: Test your aim with these precision games. We have a standard wooden Ring Toss set with 5 sturdy pegs waiting for you to slide your rings onto.
- Pickleball Swingball: A high-speed battle of the paddles. It’s all about the wrist action here, keep hitting it until someone reaches the top (or bottom) of the pole.
- Giant Foam Dominoes: For those who prefer a bit of strategy with their oversized equipment. These tiles are made of foam, making them perfect for playing on the grass, they’re lightweight and easy to handle, so the first one to lay all their soft wood down on the lawn wins!
The session runs until 4:00pm, right before we transition into the BIG Rounders Match.
Do I need previous experience?
Not at all! These are the games you remember from childhood, just scaled up for BSC. There are no formal referees for this session; we rely on the BSC spirit of fair play and self-governance. If a court or board is free, it’s yours. If people are waiting, simply swap out after a match or a set so everyone gets a turn.
Can I come along and just watch?
Absolutely. The outdoor games area is designed to be a social hub. Feel free to bring a chair or a blanket, cheer on the Twister survivors, and enjoy the atmosphere. You don’t need to sign up if you just want to hang out, but please do register if you plan on getting stuck into the games so we can ensure we have enough equipment for everyone.
What should I bring?
Comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for moving around on grass (trainers are highly recommended). Most importantly, bring a bit of competitive spirit and a sense of humour - especially if you end up in a human knot on the Twister mat!
Who’s running the session?
This will be a member-led session. While Emrys will have everything set up and ready for you, the session is all about the members. It’s a chance to meet new people, challenge your mates to a game of Ring Toss, and enjoy the Saturday sunshine at your own pace. Emrys will also be on hand to help with any equipment questions or rule clarifications to ensure the vibes stay high!

What to bring
Bring comfortable clothes you can move in, trainers for the grass, and your best game face—plus a towel if you plan on working up a sweat
Food & drink
Please bring something to drink with you or grab a drink from the clubhouse. As we will be outdoors, so staying hydrated is key. Given it's a Bank Holiday in the UK, there is a theoretical, scientifically unproven possibility that the sun might actually make an appearance - so come prepared!
