It's our 20th anniversary!
To celebrate, we'll be visiting all corners of the country. Come join us on Dartmoor.
Looking for a proper "off-the-grid" OutdoorLads weekend? Join us at this stunning Cottage for a two-night immersion into the rugged heart of Southern Dartmoor. This is a classic OutdoorLads hideaway—rustic, atmospheric, and tucked deep within National Trust woodland at the base of the towering Dewerstone Crags.
With the River Plym rushing past the door and granite cliffs looming overhead, this is the ultimate weekend to disconnect from the daily grind and catch up with the lads in one of the most dramatic spots in the South West.
The Location: Our Private Woodland Basecamp
Forget long drives to the trailhead. At Dewerstone, the adventure starts at the front door:
- The Crags: Towering granite monoliths rising from the trees—a playground for hikers and a legendary spot for ODL photos.
- The Valleys: A magical landscape of moss-clung oaks, hidden waterfalls, and secret river pools right on our doorstep.
- The High Moor: We’re perfectly placed to strike out onto the open heather to hunt for tors and panoramic views.
The OutdoorLads Weekend Itinerary
Friday Night: The Buffet & The Banter Arrive from 4:00 PM and settle into our riverside home. Once everyone is in, we’ll kick off with the legendary OutdoorLads Friday Night Buffet. It’s the best way to catch up with old mates and welcome any new members to the group.
The Buffet Rule: Please bring a small contribution to share (serves 2–3). Whether it’s homemade or a shop-bought savior, let’s aim for variety—but maybe keep the quiche count to a minimum!
Saturday: Into the Granite Heart We’ll spend a full day exploring the dramatic landscape. We’ll hike up through ancient Shaugh Wood, conquer the heights of the Dewerstone, and head out onto the open moor for some proper "big sky" Dartmoor views. I’ll be leading a hike that balances great scenery with plenty of social time.
Sunday: The Riverside Wrap-up We’re making the most of Sunday morning with a scenic riverside trek or a stroll up toward Cadover Bridge. We’ll be back at the cottage to pack up and head off by midday, leaving you plenty of time for the journey home (or a post-event pub lunch nearby!).
First Time with OutdoorLads?
If this is your first ODL event, you’ve picked a cracker! Dewerstone is a fantastic place to start. We are a friendly, laid-back bunch, and there’s no "in-crowd"—everyone is here to enjoy the outdoors and meet new people.
- You Won’t Be Alone: I’ll make sure to introduce you to the rest of the guys as soon as you arrive.
- The "Buddy" System: If you’re nervous about the Friday buffet or the Saturday hike, don't be. We’ll be walking at a social pace with plenty of breaks, and there’s always someone to chat with.
- Ask Anything: Whether it’s about what kit to bring or how the hostel works, just drop me a message before the event. We were all "the new guy" once!
Food & Fuel
- Included in the Event Cost: Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, plus a big, hearty group dinner on Saturday night.
