BIG North Christmas: A Big Day Out On The Fells
5 people attending
7 places left
This event is part of the OutdoorLads BIG North Christmas 2021 Weekend and is intended for those attending this event.
Working with the weather, we’ll have a big mountain day walking from the hostel to the mountains, testing ourselves in the hills whatever the weather and walking back at the end.
This walk requires a good level of fitness, but you don’t need to be a superhero.
Waterproof jacket and trousers will be obligatory as well as hat and gloves. No trainers, hiking boots are required.
The precise route of this walk will be determined on the eve of the walk when we have full view of the weather forecast.

What to bring
Rucksack: a day sack large enough to carry a packed lunch and spare layers of clothing.
Footwear: A robust pair of hiking boots, preferably waterproof.
Layered clothing: lets you quickly adapt to changes in the weather and body temperature. Go for a base layer (vest or t-shirt) and a mid layer (a micro fleece or shirt) and in cooler weather add an outer layer (a windproof jacket or thick fleece)
Trousers: ideally not jeans which become heavy and cold in the rain, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry.
Waterproof jacket: essential at this time of year.
Waterproof trousers: recommended at this time of year.
Hat/gloves: It might be quite cold.
Medicines: if you have hay fever, diabetes, minor ailments etc.
Food & drink
Water: I would recommend bringing two litres.
Snacks: biscuits, energy bars or fruit etc.
Lunch: please bring a packed lunch as we will have a lunch break at the mid-way point.
Thermos flask: you may wish to bring a hot drinks flask – tea/coffee etc.
