Ever wanted to give ice-climbing a try? Well now you can as part of the Big Clamber-Fantastic Weekend, as we’re excited to be able to offer two sessions at one of only a few ice climbing facilities in England.(For the 1st Session, Click here)
This event is a fully instructed session and includes all the equipment you will need within the cost of the OutdoorLads event.
The Ice climbing wall provide a realistic environment for beginners and experienced climbers to try out and develop winter climbing techniques. The wall itself is located within a refrigerated unit with temperatures ranging from -5°C to -12°C. The ice wall is 8m in height, (two storeys) and ranges in steepness from a pleasant slab to a drastic over-hang with everything in between; providing a variety of routes to entertain novice and accomplished climbers alike.
This is a fully instructed event with an experienced professional ice-climbing instructor (1:2 Instructor : Participant ratio) and is therefore suitable for beginners who have never climbed before or intermediate climbers with some experience to learn new techniques, to advanced sessions for climbers who have a lot of winter climbing experience and want to try out new equipment or advanced techniques.
Ice climbing is serious stuff and you need to be safety conscious at all times, whether you’re doing it indoors or outdoors. The British Mountaineering Council recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement. Before you climb, you’ll be asked to sign a ‘release of liability’ form. The instructors are experienced and qualified climbers, and they will make sure you’re safe at all times, and get the most enjoyment possible out of the experience. Using the provided equipment isn't compulsory but if you’re in any doubt as to your own level of expertise, it is recommended that you use kit supplied by the venue. Whilst you are there to have fun, it’s important that you listen to the instructor at all times, and act responsibly towards the centre staff and other customers. Vertical Chill reserve the right to refuse entry to the ice wall if their staff and managers feel for any reason that an individual may endanger themselves or others.
Cancellations must be made no less than three days before the event, by 12noon on Wednesday 27/02/18) and refunds remain subject to the £5 cancellation fee. Anyone on the waiting list at that time will be offered any remaining places -which must be confirmed by 4:00pm and can not be cancelled after that time.
