A joint hill-walk with the Gay Outdoor Club
Join us for a rewarding day in the Angus Glens as we explore the high plateau above Glen Clova, taking in two beautiful corrie lochs on our way to the broad summit of Ben Tirran. This route blends dramatic scenery with steady, achievable climbing, making it a fantastic outing for walkers who enjoy big views, good company, and a sense of journey.
We begin in Glen Clova, following the well‑made path that rises steadily toward Loch Brandy, a classic corrie loch cradled beneath steep, sweeping slopes. After enjoying the loch’s amphitheatre-like setting, we continue upward onto the plateau, where the landscape opens out into wide, rolling moorland.
From here, we make a gentle ascent to the summit of the Corbett, Ben Tirran at 896m, a broad, quiet top with expansive views across the Angus hills and out toward the Cairngorms. Our descent leads us past the tranquil waters of Loch Wharral, a lesser‑known gem tucked into the hillside, before we re-join lower paths and return to Glen Clova.
We will follow the route described on WalkHighlands.
Dogs: The walk is suitable for dogs, which must be kept under control at all times, particularly near livestock.
